Image Restrictions

After spending the last 30 minutes resizing and saving images as different formats, I've decided to voice my opinion that while I know there must be lines, the lines on Search IRC's image allotments are a bit too much. Namely in the file size; I can meet the height/width requirements, but my avatar for the forums is 14 KB, saving it as the lowest quality jpeg I can it drops to 8 KB. As well, it won't accept PNG files. Likewise for the network logo; I've met the size requirements, but the file compression cannot be set that low and still look even halfway decent.

What works will depend on the type of image. Is is a graphic with lots of different colors? The gradients are usually what determines if you go with gif vs jpg.

Gif can be extremely small if you have few colors.

I had no idea, I always thought jpeg compression was second smallest to png. It's only two colours essentially, black background with white text/image. I'll see how it handles gif.

I was able to get the new network logo in as a gif, but my forum avatar still only compresses down to 5 KB at the smallest. It's really not that fancy. This is a slightly scalled version, iirc it's 110x108 px. The one I'm trying to upload is shrunk to 100x98 px.

Heh, well, that's awesome for the site admins :p but for us other not site admins:

Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width can be no greater than 100 pixels, the height no greater than 100 pixels, and the file size no more than 1 KB.
