| • Though it may sound cliché, AlphaChat was created to get away from all of the drama and such most other smaller networks have. We run the network for the enjoyment of the users, rather than to have a place for staff to abuse their power. We maintain a hands-off approach to network management, and will not interact with channels users create unless something illegal and/or malicious is occuring in the channel. Network staff's purpose is to help run and maintain the network, not to powertrip and invade the user's privacy. We believe that the security of the network and privacy of the users are vital, and in order to provide users with a safe and secure chatting experience, we use InspIRCd, Atheme IRC services, and BOPM (in conjunction with InspIRCd's own DNSBL module). To provide a fun and entertaining experience on the network, we offer games, such as the acronym game in #Acro, Uno in #Uno, trivia in #Trivia, Werewolf in #Werewolf, and a multinetwork version of the classic IdleRPG game in #MultiRPG. If you are at a computer that doesn't have an IRC client or are unable to install one, we have a AJAX based web chat client, accessible by clicking this link. We take pride in providing users with modern server-side IRC software, as well as regional round robins, SSL, IPv6, IRC games, a web chat client, and other services.
Round Robin: irc.AlphaChat.net / irc.IPv6.AlphaChat.net
North American Round Robin: NA.AlphaChat.net / NA.IPv6.AlphaChat.net
European Round Robin: EU.AlphaChat.net / EU.IPv6.AlphaChat.net
Website: http://www.AlphaChat.net/
E-mail: Admin[at]AlphaChat[dot]net
Main Channel: #Lobby
Help Channel: #Help
Ports: 6660-6669, 8067, 8667, 16667 (plaintext) / 6679, 6690-6699, 7000, 7777 (SSL)
• We are always looking for new chatters and welcome channels of any (non-illegal or malicious) topic to the network, so check out AlphaChat today! | |

Featured networks is a way for SearchIRC to help promote IRC networks.
The system is 100% automated.
In order to be eligible for being featured, your network must:
- Be actively indexed on SearchIRC. There is no reason for us to feature networks no one can get on.
- Have a network logo uploaded into our system*
- Have a description of the network (blurb) with at least 100 characters of text*
- Have at least 10 channels.
* Someone from your network must fill in this information. Please see this page for details on getting access.
Again, our goal is to help promote IRC networks. We welcome any suggestions you might have on improving this feature. |

This is a great idea. It allows the smaller networks to get the coverage they need to get a decent user base.
One idea might be to make the featured network on the home page a random one to allow users to see more networks that they normally wouldn't see. |

| The problem with "random" is that it never really is truly random. I've seen a few networks featured more than once. I'm thinking about making it also keep track of how many times a network has been featured, and make it lean more towards networks that have been shown less than others... |

| I completely agree with you that random isn't really random, Jason - and good idea with the "make sure the other networks get a shot" idea |

| or another idea would be to not let other networks be shown more than 2 times untill every network has been shown at least once. |

I do believe that's the direction the covnersation was happening anyway.
I'm sure Jason will figure something out to fix this up. |

| while i like the idea of the random display of a network, my suggestion would be to make the "Connect server:" part an irc:// clickable link that launches a default irc client |

Okay guys...
the irc server link is now clickable.
I also put in code to store when a network was list picked, so it will always pick the network that was picked the longest time ago. |
