as far as I am aware, there is no Anope for windows......... the best you can get is a port of the real anope to windows.

You really should consider running your network services from a linux/unix/*nix shell...... I don't wish to start an OS war here, but there is a reason that almost all networks with more then a few
users use *nix servers to host their ircds and services.

You can pick up a *nix shell account for only a few $ a month (http://www.pyroshells.com, for example, or just google for 'shell account')... and they are on good, stable, fast machines with excellent uptime.

Windows boxes are not stable and reliable and secure enough to run an IRCd off of in my opinion. You should look into running your server off of a shell hosting account that allows IRCd's on a *nix account.

There is a really great hosting company named FluidHosts which will even HELP YOU setup your *nix IRCd on your account with them.

If you are referring to the horrible Windows 95/98/ME family, I have to agree. But the Windows NT side of things is more stable than you think, especially Windows XP Razz . I've yet to come across a major BSoD (and I even have the supposedly crap SP1 Razz ) that wasn't caused by third-party software (heck, on this installation, I've yet to hit any BSoD's at all Smile ). Don't even think about telling me *nix has never had a crashbug in its whole existance Razz .

Running an IRCd off Windows isn't as bad as you think. Only problem is, how many IRCds out there have native Win32 support? I only know of UnrealIRCd; any other (decent one) that I've seen has to run under el-crappo Cygwin *shudder*. (I don't know about MinGW, but I can't say I'd expect better results. Razz )

However, this thread is not about running an IRCd on Windows. It is about running services on Windows, and I see no reason why one can't run services on Windows. Socket problems aren't as bad - you only have one! Plus, there are things that can be taken advantage of in Windows that may have a more difficult or no equivalent in unix! While I can't think of any good examples of such things at the moment, but I'm sure they exist. One other advantage Windows has is, there aren't 400 gazillion different Windows kernels! In the *nix world, you have all kinds of operating systems you have to deal with; but with Windows, there are only two different kernels (the DOS/9x kernel and the NT kernel), and only one can be called "stable" (NT), so portability is hardly an issue with Windows.

Sorry to bump this old topic, but I too need a copy of Anope for Windows. I'm just running a test server for some scripts I made, it's passworded and not open to the public, and Windows works fine for it.
But that link posted earlier is broken, and http://www.wircds.net is down and has been for a long time. I tried getting the google cache of it, but no dice.
Anybody know of a working mirror for the Windows port of Anope?
