The irc:// format does not take me to mIrc. It opens my browser window and says "cannot find server".
I've gone to "http://www.mirc-help.de/help/oldmirclink.html" and tried to configure IE6 the way it is instructed...
The tutorial on configuring IE for mIRC is as follows:
Open Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer, and select "View/Folder Options/"..
Select the "File Types" tab.
Choose the "Chat" file type, and "Edit" it, as follows:
Description: Chat Files
File Extension: chat cha
MIME Type: application/x-chat
Set it to OPEN the Application: c:\mirc\mirc32.exe
Back out all the way using the "Close" or "Okay" buttons - now if you click the link again, either mirc will be started, or, if it's already running, the current copy will be logged onto the linked server/channel. Have fun!
First of all, under "View", there are no "Folder Options".
I CAN find file types under "Tools", "Folder Options". When I do chose the file type, there is no edit option. I can select "Change" and select mIRC to open that "extension". The trouble is... it is looking for a file ending with ".chat" (as in .HTML), to open.
I believe I have mIRC configured properly, but I may have overlooked something. I do believe the upgrade to SP2 in Internet explorer has everything to do with it. Somehow, IE needs to be configured to accept "irc://" commands.
Can Anyone shed some light? |

IE6 has nothing to do with it. the IRC:// link is found in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\irc .If you look at irc\shell\open\command and irc\shell\open\ddeexec, and such, the program should be listed under there.
My guess is, is that its not set to use mirc but IE instead. If i recall, mirc auto creates that key on startup, but dont quote me on it, so deleting the key should fix it. |

I don't have that key listed "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\irc". I'm not sure how to add it, if I need to.
Thanks |

| That would be why it does not work. Logon to the machine with Admin access so the key can get created by mirc on startup. |

I'm the only user on this computer and am loged in as administrator every time. I've uninstalled mIRC, cleaned the registry and reinstalled it. Still no change.

Time for another client
And not to plug my own, but I know it DOES create that registry key on startup. |

| Check your DDE options in mIRC (Alt + O -> Other -> DDE) |
