|
|
Hello,
I have a small net which has more than 3000 users as an average.
Our current services backend is MySQL 4.1.x based on modified sirvnet 2.9 which works with bahamut 1.8.x
I need to be able to unload NickServ whenever I need to do that ..etc.
So what is the best choice to go with? ircservices 5.x or anope 1.7.x with the features make any of them better than the other one.
Which one can deal with big amount of users with no problems with alot of flood, clones ..etc.
Thank you,
-A |

Here would be Anope's strong points, been to long since I looked at ircservices to know
1. It can handle large number of users, ask Rizon Network, they run with a slightly modified anope.
2. It has a built in option called "Defcon" which if you feel the network is under attack you can set the "Defcon" level and this will spawn various actions such as mode locking channels, to having services ignore users.
3. It can session limit based on host, so to many hosts from one IP will kill them off
4. It can write to mysql its data, it does not read from it**
Of note this is one thing that ircservices does not do
Minus as far as your post goes
1. Anope can not "unload" NickServ.. it can protect it but it will always be connected.
You will hear alot of stuff about what will make each better then the other, in the end it comes down to what features you feel help your network. |

To me 300 users is a big amount. 3000 users is a large network. |

3000 users is indeed large, if they're all people. And, not everyone likes nickname registration. efnet, for example. |

Rizon, currently ranked #5 in the world with 32k+ users.

| However, if memory serves, they use a modified Anope. Not sure. |

Yes .. but slightly modified. It really wouldn't matter much anyway .. 99.9% of the nets out there won't reach the size of rizon. |

| Most modifications they did are to offer specific features to their users, not to improve the reliability and speed of Anope. |
