I was wondering if there was anywhere you could go to simply use IRC without having to download anything. My friends all want to get on IRC but a lot of them for one reason or another cannot download anything.
There are thinks like jIRC all over the place, but you have to have a web site to use it. I don't have a web site. I want to find another web site with an IRC applet THAT LETS YOU CONNECT TO ANY SERVER YOU WANT because our network doesn't have one.
Thanks. |

| There are a few of them around, but they are few and far between. I know of a couple, but am not going to say anything, since I need them, and while the owners don't mind me using them, they would probably notice the bandwidth increase of a few more people using it. |

We used to have that here. Not much demand for it so Jason removed it.
Can you find your channel on SearchIRC? If the network is listed but the channel isn't (if its +s) just join any channel on the network with our java applet then part and join the channel you really want.
You can put your network's channel list on your own website (go to your network section, and click on "Add stats to your website", the code is the last item on the page) or direct users to your network's section here on SearchIRC. |

| Also, AFAIK pJIRC understands the /server command (which most IRC clients use to tell it what server to connect to). Which means, load up a pJIRC on any website, then /quit, and /server target.server.here. Some websites may ask for a password, this will usually either be a NickServ password or actual ocnnection password. In the former case, simply fill in your password for the server you are going to. For the latter case, fill in nothing (or fill in your NickServ password if you are connecting to a server that supports connect pass -> NickServ IDENTIFY handling) or your target server's connection password. |

yeah but the problem is I don't know shit about how to upload pJIRC and even if i did i doubt i could find a free webspace provider with enough memory (its only like 756784358743 files). My question was where is one that already exists for me to use and connect to whatever server I want (there are lots out there that have a list of only 1 or 2 servers you are allowed to connect to)
mregit, this works, but my server is not on SearchIRC. They are small, currently a userbase of only 500 or so I believe. They say they don't want to "go public yet".
It would be fine for me if I wanted to do this frequently, but I have mIRC and it's not me that is doing this. It's my friends, who are completely illiterate with computers. You know how those people are; they'll never remember to connect on some other channel and server, disconnect, type in a new server, connect to that one, part whatever channel they said to join at the beginning, then join whatever channel they want.
There's got to be some site or something out there with a Java IRC client that will let you connect to whatever server you want...

I've been having some problems with MetaIRC recently, and I'm still working on getting it all back up... That said, there may be some service problems every once in a while, but I'll try my best to keep it up.

Not on the MetaIRC website, so you might want to add it to your favorites or something. |
