Yeah, the avatar is kind of a give away.

BTW I know I'm an $#$@!@#, but I atleast try to follow the Rules and I didn't chime in to back up PingBad. I commented because this is the umpteenth time you've made this rant. It's old and it's boring. Seriously, if you can't come up with better than this to troll with then you're just not entertaining anymore. And you know what they say about using insults and sarcasm? It's only for wit-deficient. Same for trolling for that matter

Note, I don't get pissed off as easily any more. Probably because I've met and dealt with worse.

Well, no matter how many times Ive made this rant, that does not mean it isnt the truth. , Also....if you've met and dealt with worse, maybe you should associate yourself with a higher class of people. I don't believe speaking the truth is considered trolling. :/

My reason for running my own small ass network is that Ive done so since 95 or 96. Its a genuine hobby of mine and Ive done it for a long time. I see no reason to stop now. I have friends that expect me to keep atleast one ircd up since Ive been doing it so long.

Having doing so for a long time isn't a real reason either. Several other admins do too. There are enough experienced net admins out there to make yours just another generic net. It says that you are doing it for your own reasons and not for the betterment of IRC as a whole or for the benefit of providing users a safe place to chat. Doing it because of ones own agenda isn't really much better than any of the $5 admins reasons because you are about your own satisfaction and not others. I've been on IRC and an admin longer than you and I don't run a network, I don't see the point with thousands of other ones already doing the same thing. Personally I've settled on a friendly network ran by a newbie with an open mind that's willing to learn and I'll take that setup long before I go with an experienced admin that just might be a prick ;P

Keeping 1 ircd up can still be done by merging or linking to another network, there is no real need to be your own network. So in short, you really aren't doing anything different than the other admins that have generic nets. At least some of them are doing it so they can learn and perhaps grow to provide for others and not just themselves.

Please don't get me wrong, you raised some valid points and I'm not really on any kinda attitude kick or anything. Just sharing an opinion in response to your opinion is all. I am curious as to what server you ran on what network and which ISP/DC hosted your shell back in 1995/96 Wink gotta love nostalgia lol.

PS: Trolling has nothing to do with what you say .. fact or fiction, it's about how you say it.

Did you not notice me saying that I was just using unreal as an example and I was not on an anti-unreal kick? You just wasted all that space for nothing. Way to go, moron.

Your first post was hard to read to begin with. Talk about a waste of space (or lack thereof). And I never said anyone was on an anti-real kick. Reading comprehension. I merely used it as an example, as well. Imagine that.

The state of IRC has nothing to do with anything you mentioned. It's not like any of those things suddenly happened within the past five years, either.

But I'm done feeding the troll, heh.

I'm glad you agree with some of my points. To answer a few of your questions, my first ircd was the original "ircd" and i registered no domain for it, just an ip address/generic eatel.net address. Being born in louisiana with family that has friends that own eatel.net (an isp/phone company that I worked for doing tech support) ...I was allowed to park a slackware machine there and play around on it, Since it was such a new concept back then, alot of my HS friends used it, and it grew by word of mouth.

I put my two cents in on the subject, others disagreed obviously and felt compelled to insult and egg me on. It worked. What can I say? I like a good argument. I also like to get a rise out of folks which it seems I have successfully done.

I think you're more inclined to egg yourself on. The worst you got called so far was a troll - because you know - you started this to get a reaction and you continue trying to get a reaction with your outlandish responses and blatant insults. Isn't that the definition of trolling? Oo

hello,
I am new to this forum and all i can say is... This thread is SOOOO rediculus...

And why? Because its all about boosting your own egos rather than try to find ways to revitalize the irc community

I hope this post is taken as a point and not as an insult.

Welcome to SearchIRC.

A general overview of the views on IRC and it's current state of health is that some people care, some don't and no one agrees on how to fix it.

You put 10 admins in the same thread and you will get 11 different points of view and everyone is positive they are correct.
