| the average person encounters thousands of people per year, not just the same 500. The truth is that IRC is just another form of interaction, no different that going to a club/bar or even the grocery. You can meet your mate anywhere. My cousin met his wife when he ran a red light and hit her. You just never know. |

I don't know anyone who has, i havn't.*
I do know people who have found each other through other internet mediums.
I have however met some of the best people in my 'real' life through IRC though.
(*developed a long term relationship after first meeting on irc) |

Yes I believe you can, although if you consider doing so remember the safety aspect! I have been on several networks where there are couples who have found true love through IRC, I also have several great friends who I socialize with off of IRC. |
