No, IE gets a bad rap because of these traits:
1. It STILL uses a (partial) CSS 1 only engine - most modern browsers support CSS 1, CSS 2 and partial CSS 3. IE takes the MOST work with 'fixes' just to make the template work for it. Don't believe me? Ever checked MediaWiki's CSS files? There are 5 of 20kb or more each JUST for IE. Nuff said.
2. ActiveX - it's worse than javascript and even more insecure.
3. Own tags for some things (MS trying to set some standards again). <imbed></imbed> anyway?
4. It's badly written from the get go and MS screwed the original designers out of it. So they got what they paid for - which means IE gets screwed alot.
5. NO pop-up defense - you need to install external programs to get this feature that you get in all other browsers
Why use it at all if you can just use something that works like Firefox? |

everything has pros and cons, even your beloved FF. It's just up to the individual to choose which set of pros/cons they can accept.
It's funny that you mention CSS and stuff, since IE is the only browser I have that correctly renders SearchIRC. Go figure.
uhm, IE7+ does have a popup blocker. It's even enabled by default. Perhaps you should blame the sites you visit for trying to violate your privacy instead of the browser you use. I've never had a popup problem, nor have I ever needed a 3rd party blocker. Maybe you should try blocking 3rd party cookies too. Another trick SITES use, not the browser.
Anyway, I'm not defending solely IE, all browsers have flaws .. ALL of them.

Go figure. | I use FF 3.6, and SIRC renders perfectly - every time. Chrome, Safari, Epiphany and most non-gecko browsers I have used manage to fsck it up in one way or another (Trident being a notable exception).
That said, as a developer who's work revolves heavily around CSS and html elements, IE manages to completely screw any well-formed layout (60% of the stylesheets I've had to code has been an utter necessity to do workarounds in IE's - more accurately, Trident's - shortcomings) |

IE is STILL the only web browsers NOT TO SUPPORT CSS 2 (not even mentioning CSS 3) and it requires the most fixes when you design websites. It also still the most insecure because of ActiveX and it's still non-standards compliant compared to any other browsers. It's not only flawed, it's falling apart because of them. period. It makes ANY other browser look better by comparison. |

| Well I have chose Firefox as my default browser, honestly, in my opinion, nothing compares to it. However, I have noticed it cocks up a bit when playing online games, so Chrome comes to the rescue.. |
