Here's the deal:
I run an IRC server with inspIRCd 1.2, and Atheme v5a (hg-branch)
No, I'm not willing to change to another IRCd.
No, I'm not willing to change to services other than Atheme.
I run these two, because: 1. InspIRCd is one of the few IRCd's written from scratch, and is incredibly stable, and efficient. And 2. Atheme is awesome, and even though I'm using an alpha version, I have had _no_ crashes, bugs, or problems with it.
I'd prefer to run the services, as I have some custom modules implemented in my Atheme, but at the end of the day, as long as the services are atheme (v4+) and the IRCd is inspircd (v1.2), I'm happy.
Now, if you're still reading this:
Hello My name is Chris, or as I go by on IRC, "goose". I run a small IRC server, I have 65 registered nicknames, with average 15-25 users online at any given time. As you've read already, the server is InspIRCd 1.2, and Atheme v5a, run on a VPS (Provided by RapidXen) running Debian Lenny.
The server initially started out as a testnet, which I then turned into a real server after some experimenting and learning. I know my way around the IRCd and Services quite well.
I'm really not looking to "take over another network", so much as I am to "merge two (or more) communities together". I'm just looking to bring a server/network of cool people, together with another server/network of cool people.
If you've made it this far and are still interested in linking, feel free to either IRC me at:
irc.honk-honk.org #goose
or email me at:
goose [at] honk-honk [dot] org
I'd like to get to know the admin of the potential link before I even make a solid offer. Hopefully you'll understand |

| Or, leave me a post here with your server info, if you think we'd get along, and I'll come by and check you guys out! |

Clearly there is no deal.

What are you offering? Doesn't look like you offering anything to someone who might be interested in linking with you.
Sorry for ruining your thread, but perhaps things might work better for you and your "network" in general if you try and make deals and make better offers. You will never go anywhere with the track you are currently on. Period. |

Well, rather than scream "HAI HERE'S MY SERVER URL WE SHOULD LINK LOL" I thought it'd be good to actually say something about my setup, and the logic behind it.

You've hardly ruined my thread, in fact, I think I should thank you for giving me the opportunity to prove that my posts aren't troll spamming aimless nonsense like most of the other link offers I've seen on here. I mean, I care enough to write out a reply this long.
I apologize in advance to the admins if anything I've written in this post comes off as "flaming" or "trolling", in fair judgment, it seemed to me a fair counter-point post. Nothing meant aggressively |

I apologize, my entire data center had to go down for emergency maintenance last night, apparently some of the racks gave out.

Connection timeout errors are indicative of routing errors (failed links, or even overloaded links - as examples) between the end-user and the target server; DNS resolution (at this point) is not even in the equation.
What say you speak only when you're sure you know what you're talking about? |

| Quite. Although my datacenter was down, my DNS services are provided through a different company (NameGuard -- I'd recommend them. Cheap, and great), and they were still up and functioning in full :p |

| outlawrunner wrote: | | my name isnt shawn. | Yet the IP address attached to the post I am quoting has only been used for 3 accounts: banse21, incognito and outlawrunner - one would tihnk mere coincidence, until one discovers that the email address used to register the account outlawrunner uses the username "shawn". So if you aren't shawn (even though you're using an email account with the name shawn - and the domain is registered by a Shawn of Ontario - then who are you? | Quote: | | and i do know what i speak of seeing how im actually a computer tech for the last 3 years. | Got any references? No, didn't think so - and 3 years is nothing; I have been a systems and network (physical network, that is - you know, the cables, the routers, the subnet masks, ip configuration) for the better part of the last 10 years | Quote: | | also now i know why this place is dead its because of rude people like yourself pingbad | Actually, no, the seasoned veterans (you know, the people who actually know what they're talking about, and have been here longer than any of your previous accounts) are growing tired of kids who know nothing and open their mouth anyway.
I thought you weren't coming back, to be honest, and I don't think I would have missed you in the slightest. To think, I once defended you against the likes of twiggs, dacayhero, etc - maybe I should invite them back and let them have at you? It probably isn't fair that I get all the fun and they miss out. |
