Hey all, me and Squirm have been working on instant massager gateway so that people can chat from their favorite IM client. It acts connects like a Services server initial and then creates psudo-clients for each user on IM, so the user is physically in the channel once they choose to connect using .in or choose to disconnect with .out (which removes them again from the channel and server).
It's still in dev stages, but feel free to try it out and give suggestions of what you'd like to see in it.
