I think I would have to go with the stability as the most important thing when it comes to any network. Myself, personally, this is the first thing on the list when it comes to any network that I am involved in the routing/management process (sort of a pet-peeve with me and places). A network, gameserver, or anything else with connectivity issues is a very quick deterrent to me ever connecting/going there again.

Second thing, is definently staff friendliness. Despite this being a free and "unmoderated" medium, there is still such a thing as customer service. How the staff treat each other and the users provides the overall characterization of the network. If you abuse and act harshly or inappropriately towards users, people will think of the network as "unfriendly and rude" and won't want to come to or stay on the network.
It seems like there are alot of administrators and ircops out there who have no clue when it comes to the true meaning of "managerial skills" and what that entails. This includes when it is time to step back and let an issue resolve itself or a situation go, and when it is time to step in and take action. Unfortunately, there are those who are just "power-mongers". People seem to only have one (or two) ways to solve an issue, and usually includes kill or akill instead of attempting a more professional route first.
Staff, to me, should really be just another user, there to chat, and enjoy the company of others, and only ensue the "staff" part when necessary, not convenient.
I'm with mouselike when it comes to abusing and forcing modes. |
