| Have you tried Net-bits' Flash IRC client that can be found here? |

| Looks to be out-dated. I was hoping there was something better. |

Technically speaking IRC as a whole is "outdated" in that it hasn't really been updated in years.
But out of curiosity, why exactly does it have to be a "flash" client when flash isn't as widely available as Java or even using cgiirc would be? |

Flash is what has been requested by several users.
I have had complaints about problems with java in the past. |

| Ajax seems to be the popular choice nowadays. Try Quakenet's new webchat client - http://qwebirc.org/ or just see if Mibbit works for them. |

Many of them seem to not to be updated a lot, like Net-bits (last update in 2006) above and WFIC(last update in 2004), but it doesn't mean they don't work
Mind you, these days there are so many choices when it comes to connecting to IRC from a website, like Java based (pjirc), Ajax (javascript) based (mibbit), PHP:IRC based (MASIRC), Perl based CGI:IRC (cgiirc) and finally Flash based (above examples). So if one of them doesn't work for us, we can always use one of the other methods (or a mix of some or all of them) until we find something we and our users will be comfortable with.
The alternative would be have the chat client customized written for your network, like Wyldryde did a while back. Hope it works out HollyW00d. |

Ajax is still built on Java
Ajax, sometimes written as AJAX (shorthand for asynchronous JavaScript and XML),
Mibbit works great though! |

That's incorrect. JavaScript and Java are not related in the slightest. They have very different origins and were unrelated entirely until the language changed its name to JavaScript. |

In fact java and javascript do have a lot to do.
Since it's syntax, which is somewhat similar to the name (agreed deal in between SUN (Propietary of Java) and Netscape))
Also both share some C Resemblance.
But apart from what I know, WikiPedia says:
"Both languages use syntaxes influenced by that of C syntax, and JavaScript copies many Java names and naming conventions. The language's name is the result of a co-marketing deal between Netscape and Sun, in exchange for Netscape bundling Sun's Java runtime with their then-dominant browser. The key design principles within JavaScript are inherited from the Self and Scheme programming languages.[3]
"JavaScript" is a trademark of Sun Microsystems. It was used under license for technology invented and implemented by Netscape Communications and current entities such as the Mozilla Foundation.[4]
"
Couldn't help it, haha. |

Actually that entry is incorrect. Sun only got trademark on the name after it's invention by Netscape Communications, which named it JavaScript to try and gain some users from the then very popular and well known Java. They aren't related in the slightest, save for similar C syntax... |

| I can recommend the Flash IRC Client lightIRC, it has skinning functionality as well and is free and technically up to date. |
