Agreed. It's better to go with people you've known for a while than somebody you 'found' somewhere else (why I never see the point of those seeking IRCop offers  ) |

You want an oper who interacts with the users. An oper who is a laugh and who makes others laugh.
Also the age old "i'm the tech guy" shouldn't be an excuse for opers who idle either, that to me just means you aren't interested in helping the users or helping the networks activity itself.
People often decide to go with experience when they look for ircops, and as someone posted earlier on this thread, experienced opers can be arrogant. And I know this isn't always the case, but their is a general trend for experienced opers to portray themselves as Gods.
Some admins who are looking for new opers need to realise that if they took the time to train users who have little or no experience, they can mould them into the oper they want. E.g giving the user a basic general irc knowledge but expanding further and giving the trainee oper a detailed lesson on how to do specific tasks on the network.
As William said, maturity. And to expand on that you want commitment from the opers. Also hiring from within is a great idea, it shows the other users that you notice them and take their efforts into consideration when choosing opers. |
