| There is no server list available through SearchIRC due to abuse of such lists -- spammers and virus authors use them rather than spend months researching networks themselves. |

Well I assume the official list only lists the "bigger" networks . |

Though this site dosn't currently offer a downloadable servers.ini of the networks and servers indexed, You could always go through this site and create your own servers.ini |

| Good luck. It would take you months, if not years - by then it would be stale. |

Yes, the database in SearchIRC is constantly changing.
On avg around 60 networks are added per week, and about the same number are removed.

...and lets not talk about mergers and splits and spinoffs.
Do you have any idea how long a servers.ini list from SearchIRC would be? You'd need to stack 12 monitors up just to read the thing. lol |

I believe mIRC's standards are:
To get a random in the .ini-100+ users and 3 servers.
To get a few servers in the list- 1000+ users.
At least thats how they were before.
They try to keep it updated and keep networks that have died out of it, and new ones that meet requirements into it. |

I just wanted to mention that I would love to release a servers.ini from SearchIRC.
It would be the most complete up to date servers.ini. It could list all servers on each network + RR, and would never domain dead networks...
I had come close to doing that a few months ago, but that was when we started seeing spambots using IFIRC's servers.ini. If we then followed suit, networks might not want to list for fear of being spammed. So we have no plans for a servers.ini, now or ever. Not unless someone can figure out a 100% spam free method. |

Jason: thats why now, although we meet the criteria to have more than a random listing in mIRC, we aren't doing so. More servers in the ini means a bigger footprint in a spammers file.
We're just going to stick to random only in the .ini-then if we get a reallly bad spambot attack, the irc.* random can always be temporarily disabled in favor of an irc2.* or something similar. Adding servers into the ini would mean having to remove each server out also. |

Why not let server administrators add them self to a list within the servers.ini ?
Will minimize the network counts, yes, but then its the server administrators own responsability about the spamming.
would be the same that administrators would submit to the mirc website to get it.
That way the networks that wish to promote them selves that way will have the opotunity to get it done |

Right now SearchIRC does not plan to release any servers.ini list, we do not know when or if that will change. But it's doubtful it will ever change unless spammers and virus writers suddenty all die....now wouldnt that just be perfect? heh
