I agree it will be used for that, but is that a good reason not to offer such a list? What I mean is, as someone already pointed out, there is a servers.ini available on mIRC.com that the spammers can just download.
What I was thinking is, why not have it opt-in?
"Do you want your network to be included in the list of servers that can be loaded by users into their client? (Note: This increases the risk that spammers and/or drone/virus bots will find your network)"
I'm sure, even though many will use it for spam, people will still opt-in, I mean, they asked to be added to mIRC's list even though that will bring spam.
You could also add some protection, like you must have a SearchIRC account (with a verified email) before you can get access to the list.
The one suggestion I would make, however, would be, don't just do servers.ini. Since you presumably store the data in a SQL table, wouldn't it be cool if, rather than have an mIRC-only feature, the user could select his/her client and SearchIRC would generate the list of servers in whatever format that client uses? Like if I'm using X-Chat I'd choose the "X-Chat" radio button, and it would give me the server list in the format X-Chat uses, or mIRC uses, or Bersirc, etc. I think that would make it significantly more useful. |

I agree with codemastr on that one. That's a great idea, and i would like to see that implemented into the site. But of course, it is up to you all |

IF I have time, I'll try and code back the IrcRing (what the name of the site was)...in a better style, and better protection. Just tell me if you want it to be done |
