My school blocks people from connecting to irc on their network, which I think is rediculous. Does anyone know a way around it? They basically allow you to connect, but as soon as you do, they shut off your internet and give you this message:

"Your computer has attempted to establish an outbound IRC connection. While IRC can be used for legitimate purposes, most activity is the result of a virus infection. Many viruses attempt to provide their creator with control of your computer via IRC (Internet Relay Chat).

In an order to prevent this malicious activity, IAT Services has disabled the use of unencrypted IRC on our network. Any attempt to use standard IRC protocols will result in our systems automatically disabling your computer's network connection."

There are plenty of ways around it, the question is - is it worth losing your internet connection completely?

yeah there are ways around it such as tunneling and ssh but it looks like all u need is ssl since ur school said "IAT Services has disabled the use of unencrypted IRC on our network. Any attempt to use standard IRC protocols will result in our systems automatically disabling your computer's network connection."

also ssl will get u away from the standard irc ports . if the irc network you are trying to connect to doesnt supply ssl ask for it most admins will supply anything theres a demand for
