By that statement youre basically saying IRC doesnt exist and there is no standard for any server or client to use thereby making clients and servers incompatible. RFC1459 until otherwise stateted is THE base spec of IRC updated NOT replaced by RFC's 2810-2813

If you dont at least stick to RFC 1456 for the most part youre not by definition writing an IRC server. Youre writing some custome protocol that has nothing to do with IRC or is only in parts similar.

If your not gonna follow the RFC, I can guarentee a few things. You will definetly not keep users because their clients will break when they connect to your ircd, which will piss alot of people off. You shouldnt even call it an IRCd, cause the basis is to at least go by the RFC to an extent. It isnt much a set of rules, it's just a guideline to follow to make sure you have full compatibility. I was interested in this at first, but seeing your attitude after the first post, I changed my mind. And whats this bullshit about this "Olene" person. Who gives a !@#$ who you are. And how you brought all these "internet guys" to their knees. Thats why I prefer real life girls to internet girls. ...And this is why I wont touch DALnet with a 200 foot pole anymore. Oh well, Suit yourself.

Taken literally, IRCd means Internet Relay Chat daemon... so essentially any piece of software that acts like an IRC server is an ircd

To add to that any server that provides an IRC compatible service can essentially be called an IRCd.
