|
|
Hello, new to the forum
anyway, my question is:
I've got the impression that by access level in services, "Services Root Admin" has more access than "Services Admin"...
Thus, if I am not wrong, Services Root Admin should be able to use all the commands that the SA is able to...
If I am also correct in this, then it's very strange that when I identify myself as SRA, I cannot use the SAJOIN / SAPART commands, although when I identify to SA, I can!
Help appreciated |

That's because when you identify as SA, the mode that services sets on you (probably +a) is recognized by your IRCd as being a "services administrator" mode, which allows you to do /sajoin and /sapart (which are ircd commands, not services commands). I have yet to see an IRCd that knows what a "services root admin" is natively, so unless services are setting you +a for that as well (instead of whatever mode it thinks it should be setting you), you wont have access to those commands.
However, if you are an SRA, you have several options. You can fix this by using /OS RAW SVS2MODE your_nick +a -- or by setting yourself as an SA in your o-line -- or by just doing the SA commands via services (/OS RAW SAJOIN <nick> <channel>).
In my opinion, /sajoin and /sapart are inferior because most IRCds will send some crazy notice to the user like "xxxx forced you to join ...", whereas you could just use "/OS RAW SVSJOIN <nick> <channel>", which usually sends no such notice telling the victim who did it. |

i like how you mention "victim" in your post... because thats exactly what the forced-to-join user is, a victim. Use of the /sa* commands should be at an absolute minimum (preferably, not used at all).
Having set::join-on-connect (or equivilent) declared in the IRCd's config is one thing (some people despise even this, I personally couldn't care), but forcing people to join a channel down the track manually is quite another (esp given it gives users a sense of being told what to do, if they wanna join the channel, they'll join it) |

| I agree with PingBad wholeheartedly. Theres a reason that /invite exists. And unless you're playing with a bot, using /sapart and /sajoin in the first place is rather uncommendable. I apologize if my first reply made it seem like I was a fan of using them. |

| Agreed, forcejoins is something that definently annoys me, and would make me not join an irc network. If i want to go somewhere, I'll join there and yes, that's why there is an /invite command. I don't like the use of that or any /samode commands unless is absolutely necessary (which really it shouldn't be) |
