I first wana say that i love this site and to keep up the good work ....Altho its a problem thats brought me to write this post.
I have a channel on Undernet...Its called #SeXy-XDCC
Undernet is listed in the networks being scanned by searchirc but when i try to locate the channel using the search on the main page it says...
No match found.
There is no match for your search of #SeXy-XDCC
Please narrow down your search and try again.
I have also tried using the advanced search and it still says bascily the same thing.
Is there a reason for this? Am i doing something wrong with the channel to make it not be seen or is this an error with the site/spider?
Would really like to have my channel listed on searchirc and i do have files being served in the channel altho as far as i know that shouldnt matter as far as just searching for the channel
the Undernet server i am using is,
-montreal.qu.ca.undernet.org
Plz if you can help or at least shine some light on my problem , Plz do so as i would greatly apprecate it
Thank you |

It came right up for me.
There is really only one reason why a channel doesn't show up in our search results -- it wasn't in your network's /list when our bot was there to gather it.
I notice your channel is marked "New". Brand new channels do not always show up immediately on our site. If you have ever run a full /list you know that it can take up to 20 minutes on a large network. This is not a bug in your client, rather the IRC server feeds the information out slowly so you do not flood off. /list doesn't work any faster for our bots. As soon as one /list is done, we grab it again. (On smaller networks we get list about once an hour.) If your channel was created before the /list was generated, then its in there and will be on our site - if not, you'll have to wait for the next round.
Make sure your channel is not +s or +p. On Undernet, and other networks using their server code, +p does not show in channel lists either. This is unfortunate, as +p was a very useful mode for channels. But there you have it +s and +p will keep you off /list and thus out of our database.
(In an opposite twist, some +s channels have shown in our list, causing alarmed admins to write us asking if we have some way of seeing secret channels on their network. Nah. No conspiracy here folks, our bots have regular user status on all networks and only see what is in /list. The explanation is - that secret channel wasn't +s when we visited. Occasionally /list will be generated just as a channel is created, before the modes are set, or, a user will autojoin that channel on a split server creating the channel without modes. If our bot also happens to visit that server to get /list, the "secret" channel is listed, and will remain in our database for up to a week.)
Of course, all of this depends on our bot being able to get on the network in the first place. Check the freshness rating of the rest of the channels. If it is also low, then we may be an issue preventing our bot from connecting. Drop us an email and ask one of the IRC ops on your network to check their ban lists. We will do everything possible to solve the problem. |

Oh, one more thing because I think its important to say here.
We do not filter out channels due to the name of the channel, content of the topic or channel, number of ops, users, servers, etc and so on.
Since the beginning, IRC networks have had a way for users to advertise their channels and what is in them. Its called /list.
Using IRC clients, /list is not very user friendly. But SearchIRC changed all of that. We get /lists from all IRC networks, to give users a fast, easy, and accurate way to advertise, and find, what is current available on IRC.
Take a look at the amount of area each channel gets on SearchIRC - heck, its more room than a full banner ad (and a LOT of people are looking at our top search words). If you look at your channel's listing you'll see a link to list your channel in our chat directory, a way to get pages of free webspace with MyChannel, and users can review your channel and leave comments for others to read.
Best of all, its all advertising your channel the way YOU want. You are in control. You choose the name of your channel. You decide if its in /list or not. You set the topic. You write the description for the chat directory, and have pages to fill with information with MyChannel - and all of your ops and regulars can tell the world how great it is.
You know how eBay and Google work? If you are looking for a certain make or model of laptop you would type in those keywords? Same thing here. Make sure your keywords appear in your channel name and topic and you will appear higher in the results.
Be sure to follow your NETWORK's rules - and then feel free to state your political views, read tarot cards, sell that 88 mustang in your driveway - whatever you want. |
