IRC dating service

Assuming there is such a thing, would you trust it? Do you think it's possible to find a match via IRC? And if so, is this a better way to find a date then those websites offering "true love"?

I personally say no. Reason being in the majority of situations it's not gonna work. There is a difference in knowing someone online, and knowing them in real life. That difference can make "dating" or whatever online awesome, but then when the in person contact comes you wanna rip the other person's head off. I have meet a couple of people from IRC that I chat with. One was wierd and strange, and I'm not doing that again. Another couple is so freaky, they have a lot of the same stuff I have, and act just like me and my other half but they are a few years older. Same thing with relationships for romantic reasons, there are still different possibilities.

I never liked any form of dating service myself. I'd rather just walk up to a woman and ask her out. It's a bit embarrassing if she says no, but then again it's not the end of the world.

Sometimes you get to meet and know people through clubs or via your friends. I'm sure there are people out there too shy to ask a woman out or who never get outside and think a dating service might be an answer, but I personally feel that dating services are commercial institutions manipulating people who feel lonely.

I suppose it could work if people really were into looking for such a thing. I wouldn't dismiss the possibility since people hook up all the time on the internet, and chatting often with someone can make solid friends and people we will actually go visit in rl. It's not something I truly care about but I could see it as a feasible thing, since others like Yahoo and MSN etc make them work. I'd imagine though the chances of success for such things are minimal as they are on those sites too.

Yeah I often see ads for those dating sites with texts like "find real love now" or "find sexy singles online" and sometimes even with pictures of rather skanky looking women who actually live near me. But seriously, I don't trust that crap nor do I trust "sexybabe22" who's picture is in my e-mail with the text "i'm looking for you"
