A friend of mine has been writing a hacking simulation bot. Below are the details of it and I just wanted to know what you all think. I saw another thread here about gaming bots and the such.

Quote:
Q. What is the GNI all about?
A. GNI is a hacknig simulator, based entirely in a virtual world called the 'Global Network' (Think internet). It simulates many parts of hacking, and poses missions and challenges along the way.

Q. Why did you make it?
A. I don't think it's been done before. And it would be fun to play!

Q. When will it be finished?
A. Hopefully, never. I plan on adding packages/servers/missions from now until I decide I've had enough.

Q. Can anyone play?
A. During testing stages, no. You have to be a tester. Once it's live, yes.

Q. How good is the 'Cop' AI?
A. Terrible. There isn't one. As players, you get to decide if you want to be a BlackHat or WhiteHat hacker.

Q. Is it realistic?
A. I'd like to think so. I've tried to make everything as authentic as I can, whilst keeping it mostly simple to understand.

Q. Is it free?
A. Yes, although there will possibly be options for buying "Super Computers" and the likes.

Q. How long did it take to write?
A. At the time of writing this, I've spent about 3 days working on it. I expect to spend another few weeks before it goes live.

Q. What langauge is it written in?
A. It's written entirely in mIRC Script. 100% mSL.

Q. Why mIRC?
A. Because I can. And mIRC can. And .. Well, damn.. None of your business!

Q. Are you just trying to trick me in to downloading a virus?
A. No. Infact, you don't need to download anything to play. During the course of the game, you may be sent files, but these aren't viruses. Infact, I urge anyone to scan any files they recieve on IRC.

Q. Are you worried about people using this game as practice for real hacking?
A. Frankly, I'd be flattered if it was realistic enough for that. There are some aspects that are very close to realism, but I doubt anyone would use it for that reason.

There is a difference between a game, and doing the hacking for real. Those that hack for real, yes are going to end up in legal trouble usually. Just as a game I don't see it being any different really than the shooting video games that are so popular across the world.

As much as I love FPS games (and I do), they are getting somewhat bloody and violent (GTA: San Andreas to name one -- it almost got banned from NZ Neutral). I've heard of cases locally, nationally and internationally where kids are taking their in-game experiences and trying them for real. Who's to say it won't happen here?
