Do you give support for users who are new installing the charybdis IRCd or are they all alone?

We have extensive documentation that we expect you to read.
http://www.stack.nl/~jilles/irc/charybdis-oper-guide
If that and reference.conf do not help you, then you can probably get help from us on irc.atheme.net #athemenet-dev. |

| I'm sorry, but why do you need a whole topic just to say you've made a new MINOR release which doesn't have that much special things added? |

Perhaps you should have discussed that two months ago. |

Because relatively speaking, it's no big deal.

Minor release info should be contained on the ircd's website. Posting major changes I can see as acceptable. For at least major releases could by chance affect the IRC community as a whole whereas telling 17,000+ users you fixed a few typos in a place where only 23 servers have people who would care. (23 servers being the number of charybdis servers scrawl currently indexes.)
Posting minor fixes to a website not directly related to the ircd which contains very few users that actually use the daemon versus the number of users that could care less is borderlining on spam.

Why do you always make an issue out of things klaw, if you dont like the topic, dont click on it, if its of no interest of you keep hush, i for one would rather visit very few online forums and see such things like this posted rather than having to go hunting and keep checking back for updates.
It's not as if much gets posted these days, so guys if you want to post trivial to critical updates, please do. dont let the likes of katsklaw stop you as its interesting to follow your updates. |

ok let me get this straight mouselike... GeniusDex posts and generally says "why are you posting this here?" and you smile and ask a question like "why not?".
I post the same thing but in different words and you think I'm making an issue out of it and say crap like "if you dont like it dont reply."
Well here a news flash ... I have just as much right to reply any anyone else does!
News flash #2 .. follow your own advice .. if you don't like it .. dont reply.
News flash #3 katsklaw wasn't the only one that seemed even remotely objectful to this thread yet once again .. katsklaw is in the spotlight and crap like "dont let the likes of katsklaw stop you".

| GeniusDex on IRC-Junkie wrote: | Version 1.7.11 of this popular IRC services package has been released. Changes include improved Windows support with new installation files, "a number of memleaks and possible, but unlikely, segfaults" and more which can be found in the Changes Log.
The previous version included "sync issues" which caused problems on the Ultimate3 IRCd. "Because of the large number of different IRCd's we support, we can't test all and each of them completely. The QA people do quick checks on each IRCd, and because the things affected by this bug were pretty minor it slipped through without being noticed" developer GeniusDex said to IRC-Junkie in a reaction.
One of the new features is the addition of the hs_request module. GeniusDex explains: "This module allows users on your network to request a vHost with HostServ, which can then be approved and denied by services admins. This way your support channel won't be flooded by requests for vHosts. It has always been one of the more popular modules."
You can download this version here. |
Fancy that. An announcement of a minor version update to a development version of Anope.
If I was running Charybdis, I would appreciate knowing that there was an upgrade available. I would question your motives for posting in the first place, really.
katsklaw, you were addressed as GeniusDex had already been addressed. And let's face it, despite the image of goodwill and having changed, really, you're still the same opinionated scenewhore you always were.
| katsklaw wrote: | | News flash #2 .. follow your own advice .. if you don't like it .. dont reply. |
I'm sorry? What did you just do? Oh, wait, you _replied_ to him and told him to shut up for posting critically to your post. Oh, dear me. That simply won't do, will it.

GeniusDex's post had already been addressed. Please stop scenewhoring and hijacking threads already. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

I'll address this with yet another katsklaw quote.

Back to the topic at hand, congradulations with the release nenolod. Hopefully you kept GXTi away from the vhost code. |

Since when is SearchIRC the same as IRC-Junkie?
Also, partially due to this i've decided to start work on a site for software announcements related to IRC, so that every release, how minor it may be, will have a place where people won't bitch about it's announcements.

Both are forums, though one presents itself more as a news site. Regardless, the point stands. Since when did you need a whole news announcement about a minor, bugfix release of the _development_ (not even stable!) branch of anope? |
