I run a trading channel and have 2 buddies that can not run mIRC at work but can use any instant messanger, AIM YAHOO Instant Messange or MSN messanger. I post my trades using an f-key activated popup as shown below.

f6 {
set %thought $$?="SHORT*!!!"
msg #post 0,4 SHORT* 4,0 %thought
msg #daytraders 0,4 SHORT* 4,0 %thought
:end
unset %thought
}

I want to add to the script so that the post goes to the rooms and also sends it out to them using one of the 3 popular instant messanger programs. And no they cant use a Java applet to watch the chat room, we tried that. Has anyone seen such a script? I cant get it written. TIA

it was plus if he gets caught on mIRC he could lose his job. Hence why I need a way to script in a post to one of teh big 3 Im programs. I wouldnt think it would be that hard, but its beyond my limited coding ability, so if you would please HELP:) tx

or, i know this sounds novel, but if your place of work dosnt want you on irc, chances are they dont want you using irc via a msn/icq/yahoo gateway either - so err, dont do it? :)

You're not seriously expecting employees to actually work, are you?

Actually it is fro work. We share ideas as traders, and theres no problem with that over approved networks or the phine but they are IRC phobic for some reason so I need to get him calls without having to wwaste time sending them in my mIRC channel and seperately via AIM Yahoo or MSN messanger - hence my problem.

my Network has a service for this kind of stuff. IMserv. Lets use IRC to talk to people on AIM and MSN and all that.

Can't you appeal to your superiors and tell them that you really need to use IRC?

My school's firewall was recently modified to block Java and AIM. Fortunately I can still use Yahoo and MSN, even skype. Personally I think blocking IM programs is a breach of the first amendment.

I would try using skype. My school firewall blocks VOIP, but not skype.

When will people understand that they don't have first amendment rights on private networks?

Set up CGI:IRC on your web host. Because it uses the webserver as a proxy, your network will only see usage on harmless port 80. But keep in mind you can still get banned off your private network if they find out.

sure thats a wise thing to say, shadow?

As someone (I think it was codemastr) said a few yrs back, Network admins (I mean the guys who maintain the physical networks, and not IRC networks - altho they could do both networks...) block ports for a reason. If your school, SuperSatan3, blocks AIM; IRC; et cetera, must be a damned good reason behind it (and my best bets would hinge around "That network's their to help your learning, not your net addiction")

Lol just telling you how I got around my school's firewall. I would also use RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol). Lots of fun, never got caught. But like I said, you're responsible for your own actions. Razz

It's pretty much like bans, if you ivade them chances are the ban will be increased or even made permanent. So why risk making things worse for yourself by finding ways around rules that in the case of comapnies are there to protect the company and in the case of schools are there to protect the pupils.
