ircu + Nefarious is what im using and srvx ( http://srvx.net )

I never asked what ircd and services you use but I did ask which ircd is more recommended, bahamut or ultimateircd. You don't have to like them but at least what would you recommend between the two, to make a professional network.

excuse me??? now bahamut is more professional? well i suggest u have a better look at it and at the others. btw i understood very well your question. but if im using ircu and srvx that means i strongly recomended to you.

Yes. Bahamut is more professional because it isn't a hacked up ircu with Unrealesque features... which also *breaks* P10! It's also got known stability problems. No, I'm sorry, but Bahamut is more professional than Nefarious will ever be, due to the attitude they take with it's development process. When's the last time Bahamut has crashed on you? It even works properly on Solaris, where Nefarious doesn't even build properly.

So, have fun running Nefarious, but don't be trolling where it's unwanted. Thanks.

Lucky you, "none" isn't an option in the poll, so that means don't post on this thread.

Start your own thread if you want to talk about your oh-so-loved Nefarious. I've told you to shut your yap already.

Besides, an admin recently switched from Nefarious to charybdis due to its unstability.

That would be me Very Happy

Ive used both, and quite honestly, its a very tough decision, they are both good ircd's. Depends on what you want...

Ultimate IRCd key things:
Halfops
Mode +a
vhosts
forcejoin
forcemode
different operator ranks

Bahamut Key things:
simplicity
more professional
samode
server admins and ircops
admin hosts with certain ircd port lines..

I havent used bahamut too much, those are the main things i can think of to compare.

I like simplicity, but i love functionality and stability...just not too much functions...lol

Bahamut also has /sajoin, but unlike unreal or other ircds, it's only used for an oper... which means you can't /sajoin another user.

It's pretty useful if there's a warez channel or anything like that going on and you need to check it out first before you mass-kick or anything along that line Wink

imho, ircds are NOT abusive. PEOPLE are abusive.

People who want to abuse can always find a way, no matter what resources they have to do it. Take for example ratbox or hybrid. Nothing stops me just making a script to /who every non +i user, and /kill them all in one go, rate limited so i dont exceed my sendq. If i did this, by the time anyone else was able to k-line me to stop me, i'd have /killed half the network. So, yeah, like i said, its not ircds that are abusive, its people. (just to repeat myself) Smile

I would prefer UltimateIRCd ANY day over bahamut.

Bahamut will not add anything in their ircd unless dalnet coders want.

Bahamut is also very limited with features.

You will find that any ircd that was written 'for an irc network' serves mainly to suit the goals of that network.

For example, ratbox, hybrid, most of their features are designed with efnet in mind. ircd2.10, most of their features are designed with ircnet in mind and ircu, of course, most of their features are undernet-specific. This is because that is what they were designed to do, if you need more that doesnt fit into their philosophy, you usually have to fork it.

That's because DALnet is a large network and they know what is needed to run a large network.

Like I said, they focus more on stabilityand security requests than feature requests.
