Imagin my suprise when someone told me to check out an irc network's new website, and it was an exact clone of my own. All of the hard work put into the website was copied with someone else's name slapped on it. Every little detail was the same, the colors, the graphics, it was all the same, except for the name of the network.

What do you guys think about website plagiarism? Do you have rights to your own website, or can someone really get away with copying? Do you think its a bad thing at all? I'm interested in knowing what everybody thinks about it.

Everyone has the right to their own website, and then after stealing our site they accuse us of attacking their servers. We have much better things to do and I hope this puts their net to shame.

Well i was there, and i was sympathetic to you, but no you had to go and DDoS the network (I'm sure the shell admin will be happy about that heh), so you lost any good will you may have had. Cool

Nobodys ddosing anybody, their servers are just really unstable and they think its us just because we were there at the time. And anonymous, how would you feel if someone ripped off your site, and tried to take full credit for it?

Besides, this thread was origionally to discuss what you thought of website plagiarism in general, not this particualar incident.

cannonski I'd like to see some proof for that, you can go randomly accusing people of ddos but it's meaningless without proof.

I don't even know anything about ddosing, give me a break. That and I don't even know who you are.. So stop trying to cause drama, the issue will be over as soon as the site is changed!

According to the 'licenced under' notice at the bottom of your home page:

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/ca/

Anyone has the right to copy it, which they've done. What they should've done is include the same licence info, not put their own copyright notice on it

It says it cannot be altered in any way though, and there was no creative commons licence at the time of the copy.

If memory serves me, shadow, your site was built on a template of which anyone is free to grab, modify to their needs and use. With that in consideration, no theft of your site was done. However, had you coded the site from the ground up (as I have done with mine, barring the forums (of course lol)), then you would have a cause for complaint.

it is infact a free template 1 or 2 sites i have searched on witch you should know where you got it without me telling you so inlight of the subject seeing im in new zealand none or international laws will stick and seeing the site is ran from my home box there is no isp running it so... without beating around the bush that same site will be going back up and you can do what ever you like!!
