how about free? bahamut. unreal. hybrid. et al. there are only a few that really want you to pay for them. only two i can think of off the top of my head (i'm sure there are others) are chatspace and conferenceroom. and they are definitely not cheap.

Chat space is as easy as piss to set up but the cost in end rips you off big time, Chat Space is the most user freindly IRC that i know of but the price lets it down major style.

im using chatspace servers since i was a script kiddie, i love it, wusuiwug (what you see is what you get)
chatspace java's is still the most used java for IRC and / or ircd and it isnt that expansive.
if you want to host it yourself then your fucked, cuz the only version you can download is about 5000 USD
but if you want the chat to be hosted, you will only pay about 20 USD per 50 users for a chatspace 3.1 server

ChatSpace is good for users and staff that are not as technical as other irc servers, cuz setting up a server is easier then stealing candy from a baby

it might be a total rip off, but some people cant live without being the javawhore.

Why pay for anything in general? If you look around hard enough... You're bound to find an unlocked door leading into a really nice house that's going to have everything you need. Or if you're out at the store, and get thirsty, just grab a soda and drink it up. It's there. Stealing is stealing wether it be online or actually in real life. I can't really talk, I use limewire like it's going out of style downloading mp3's and an occasional movie here and thier. I'm stealing those songs. And I'm sure at least 80ish % of the people that use this forum has or still do regularly download mp3's... and/or use programs they haven't bought the liscense's for. I know I'm going against what I started this post out to be. But the fact is... yes using the internet you can find the crack/serial/registery file for almost any program that has any popularity. But in doing so you're commiting a crime, and if the company presses hard enough, and you're caught using a program you haven't purchased the right to use, legal actions could result.

Did anyone consider that this guy meant a cheap IRCD shell? Because that's the impression I got.
