The irc server is strictly for getting network admins setup with accounts. It's not there for any other reason since we now use the contact page for all help and questions.
Thus we no longer use irc.searchirc.com - those who read the faq, or sign up a new network will find the new address easy to find. |

So this means people like myself who only provide low level support are no longer welcome?
If so.. then.. *sob* i guess I'll be going now *begins crying*
p.s. this whole site is very very buggy in khtml (linux's konqueror and apple's safari).. Not objecting, just informing.. I normally use an x11 gtk2 build of Firefox anyways.. |

ani..we no longer offer any other help in the channel appart from admins getting network access. All other questions go to our contact form, where we have a support team to answer questions there.

| so long as you have no objections im willing to set up an unofficial searchirc discussion channel on [quit]. As SearchIRC is a site about irc, it seems fitting that there should be a place that searchirc regulars can come and chat about searchirc (i know there is a forum but it seems that a number of users were using the support channel for this)... if this is ok the channel i create will be at [quit] on #searchirc (and clearly labelled as unofficial). Ideas anyone? |

The channel will suck unless JohnB is there
And jason, because it's fun to talk to him, because he doesnt talk back..
and MARY! She always has good insight..
and ed (and theEd), not sure why... Everyone has to join for it to be the 'same old same old'..
I don't know why SearchIRC hasnt set up a discussion channel yet, honestly..
EDIT: We need Emily too.. >_< |

Because SearchIRC is not competing with the irc channels it lists :)
Also, given that SearchIRC has a staffed question/contact mailbox, a web forum, and network support IRC channel, I don’t see any reason for a chat channel, especially one not run by SearchIRC. |

You don't see the need for a chat channel?
You run a website about chat, but you don't have a place to chat?
You don't want to compete with other channels? Fine. Mode +s. Problem solved. (I got this idea from your FAQ)
You have support for everything, but some people just want a place to socialize, like myself. I don't run an IRC network, I don't need support for anything, I don't even hold an O:Line anymore. I like the community here, even though it really isnt even one right now.
I also don't see the competition aspect anyways.. People aren't going to stop going to a certain chatroom because they're in searchirc's room. I don't picture you putting up flashing banners saying 'join the searchirc chat' or anything like that. If you have a chatroom tucked away for the people who care enough to join it, then I don't see where the problem lies.
I didn't know anyone here, but after squatting in the help channel for a while, I found out that the community has a lot of nice people. The lack of an IRC chat for a site named search'IRC' is somewhat trivial, and somewhat backwards in my opinion.

A chan where fellow sIRC'ers can relax and socialise seems a bonus, Jason.
animesoup has raised a good point regarding the +s -- at least scrawl wont pick it up (and why scrawl would connect to the SearchIRC servers in the first place is a bit beyond me)
Like it or lump it, people are going to make their own sIRC socialisation channels on other nets so the balls in your court, Jason -- official chan, or unofficial? |
