i recently updated from mIRC 6.01 to 6.03 i have completely disabled DCC and there is no other exploits i know of so i think i'm safe.

I have heard good things about XChat so you may want to look at that.

If Mr mIRC did make us pay, no one would, if i could pay for mIRC i would but for various reasons it's so difficult for me but anyway, people would stop updating or just use cracks. He would become less popular too if he started doing that!

You can never have too much choice, not enough information to make a good choice yes but never too much choice.

After using mIRC for a really long time I just went ahead and paid. Cuz I thought it was worth it and it kept nagging me. My friend uses xchat and my other friend uses besirc. He said that besirc was good because scripts were done through plug-ins. How good is besirc.

I've never heard of bersirc but i will check it out now.. Xircon used to be good until the project stopped. If you don't want to use mIRC i'd go for XChat!

P.S: I belive you mean bersirc. Wink

I'm using windows xp home and for some reason, mIRC keeps closing. I keep getting the window that says mIRC has closed unexpectedly and then I get the option to send an error report. Its very annoying just as annoying as not being able to connect to aniverse.

I've never had that before, you may need to reinstall mIRC or check for unwanted virus inside it. Now i'm loving bersirc!

Imo, time for mIRC to move over bersic should lead the way, give it a couple more updated and it will be extreamly stable with very few bugs!

There was a post on alt.irc recently about a new client which takes the good parts of terminal clients (e.g. bitchx, irssi) and combines them with a graphical system, called jIRCii (note: it's not a Java client). Might be worth a look.

jIRCii is most certainly Java. If someone told you it wasn't, I'd disregard their comments since they clearly didn't even try the program! \

FAQ question #1: What is jIRCii?

Answer:
[...]
As a side note, jIRCii is written in Java, but don't let that fool
you. This client was written with speed in mind.
[...]

The author seems to think it is Java.

Speed and java? The two are usually mutually exclusive...
