I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but bit by bit, things on these forums seem to be creaking and groaning with the strain. The latest casualty seems to be the "Latest Post" column...
Just informing you |

For example, I saw a new post had been done (the orange post icon) but the Latest Post column said I had posted it...
You arent having problems? This only started recently for me. |

Well,
For instance;
On the Forum Index, for "Script Kiddies and DoS Attacks on Servers" it says,
Last Post
Thu Jul 22, 2004 8:01 pm
Casey
So you click the link, and the latest topic to be posted to is, "A Quick Guide To Eliminating DDoS Attacks"
Mon Jul 26, 2004 1:05 am
null
Hope that helps. |

| When I look at the forum index, all but about 6 of the forums list Casey as being the last one to post. Also, the other ones that are listed are incorrect or out of date. |

Ah, that might very well be. What latest posts link are you talking about, the one I made, or one part of the forum?
I made an upgrade to the forum software not too long ago, and the database structures changed slightly, which could have caused some problems.
Let me know. |

Hey Jason,
I would like to suggest looking into getting Invision Power Boards, as the SearchIRC Forum, They are offering some nice new features in Invision 2.0. and there are all kinds of Modifications that can be added to make the Forum look really really Nices.
The DB's should be able to converted to Invison very easlly.
But theres also the Issure that this form is Interlaced into the Searchirc Website so I dont know if it could be done.
Sincerly

If I changed boards, it would likely be to vbulletin. but as you mentioned, a lot of things are tied into the forum database - it's the basis for userids for mychan, mynetwork, etc.
It's just not high on the list of things to do considering what would be gained vs time spent to get there. |

Oprnbb looks nice.. I think vBulletin is a nice way to waste money..
Try to hang on to phpbb a little while longer, until 2.2 comes out |

Actually, one of phpbb's biggest flaws is user volume database failures. More people start using the forums, the databases start malfunctioning. It happened to Leoville Town Square before they moved to UBB.Threads... However, when PHPbb 2.2 comes out, these errors will be a thing of the past.
Think of phpBB as the unrealircd of forum software.. Its nice and simple, and works well for smaller communities, but sucks under heavy use. |
