This is exactly what makes the reviews a sticky subject.
On one hand, it can be a powerful tool. It allows users to review and comment on networks. Look at eopinions, they have people of all walks of life reviewing any number of products and items. It works well there.
The problem is, once you get into reviewing companies, services, and people, it's no longer factual data about a product, how it performed, how much it costs, it becomes more about opinion and what is written is far more subjective.
To do the reviews correctly, I think we need a thumbs up, and a thumbs down associated with each review. Then an overall rating for a given network. Then a way to view just positives or just negatives. Unfortunately the network reviews section doesn't get nearly enough traffic for the votes to be representative of a network, but rather it becomes prone to sampling error.
I don't know what to tell you - a review, positive or negative should be allowed. But when abused (such as using the review page to extract revenge on a person or network), it should be removed. |

mregit, not quite true. I like to browse the networks, just to see what other people do, how they talk, and possibly to go on there and have a chat. True, I only reguarly frequent two networks (my own, netronet. and unreal support) but I like to see whats happening.
Jason, you had a good idea with the "thumbs up/down" but you'd have to ensure each person could vote only once per review... I'd go for that idea. |

Of course.
Even right now with channel reviews - you can post more than one review, but it only counts the first review towards the score of the channel.
There is a small problem with the channel review code, but I'll be fixing that one of these days... |

| You poor man, ever considered getting someone else to help develop? (Im not suggesting me, I dont do well with PHP (really) and I have too much on my plate already - winse, preparing for uni, running netronet, worrying about the main netronet owner going offline indefinatly (meaning i'll be left almost solo.....!)) |

<ass kissing>
I know what you mean, Jason. I do all of my sites as a hobby. I lose money on every site I do, but to see people finding use in my site is enough to make me keep doing it.
The people that make the site an annoyance are those who question your FREE site.. I refuse to E-Mail people when it comes down to a judgement call, such as this.
</ass kissing>
The main reason this thread spawned is because a legitimate review was deleted, because of a disagreement me and the admin had. It was based on factual info, and just last night, there were 4 more splits..
The admin is actively working to fix it, but its still a problem.. And to have a review removed because of who I am is simply unconstitutional, and I demand my civil liberties! (j/p).. But seriously, If I may point out something, completely honest, I just found the judgement in this decision to be somewhat incorrect in this case.
thats all.. |

| If a legit review was removed because the netadmin didnt like it then this site lost some points with me. I can no longer trust the site reviews. |

Just how is "legit" proved? .. IRC logs can be faked .. it's impossible to truely know all sides of the story.
You shouldn't trust the site reviews anyway, no offense Jason. How can you tell who posts actual views? One person can post several reviews to boast the site or just the opposite. |

Each case is individual, and a second opinion is now ALWAYS sought before one is deleted.
For example, last night I was asked to remove some comments....I had a look and it was 2 admins (from that network) bashing each other.
I did not see anything worth removing there, and neither did my 2nd opinion.
Some cases are obvious they should not be there, others it’s harder.
We don’t like to go deleting comments, and where possible we don’t.
