In all the years I've been on IRC, I seem to find that the conversations I'm involved in don't really have a general topic on the whole, but usually include innane comments until there's something that needs to be done, or actual knowledge to be shared. (i.e. - "!@#$ your mother, you're a whore, etc.)

It's actually pretty funny...You sit there and out of the blue someone just says "Ok, !@#$ you guys..."

When I was still visiting many different networks, the same thing happened over and over again. Somebody from Turkey with a nickname like "superstud" or "hotguy" or "loverboy" or something similar would come into the channel and the first thing he would do is private message everybody in the channel with something like this:

"hi, asl? wanna sex me?"
"hey, wanna cyber?"
"i feel horny!"

Or something like that. I got tired of it so I created a bot called Michelle which was specificly programmed to respond to such morons. One time my bot managed to keep the guy talking to the bot for 40 minutes before he realised it was a script and then he spend another 20 minutes swearing at it (and getting similar responces) before he finaly left. I wish I knew where I left the logs, but it seems I deleted them or they got lost when I upgraded or rebuild the computer or something.

In any case, I usually talk about food or cars. My co-admin (cosychair) talks about sex and gay people while my services admin (kahn) talks about getting a degree and muslims vs the world. My Dutch IRCops (_1vV, Gait and Rick) usually talk about where they live or politics.

I can't really say which subject is most often used, but if I would have to guess sex is the most common among the younger generation (and people who simply don't have a life) and food is the most common among my generation. Although I could name a few other subjects that are quite common:

football (for you Americans: that's soccer)

politics (huh huh huh you said Bush... heh heh heh you said Dick)

foreigners (any idea how many people outside your country are foreigners?)

music and movies ( teenage crap... if they don't talk about skewl they talk about this )

Hmm.

The networks I hang out on usually result in large amounts of code-speakery and trolling, then some nasty bans and some funny jokes.

All those sneak in every once in a while but it always goes back to code or trolling.
